The 2020 summer transfer window is yet to pay full dividend for Manchester United, but over the next few weeks the business done in that pandemic-affected period could begin to look an awful lot better.


None of Alex Telles, Donny van de Beek or Edinson Cavani can be hailed as major successes from that window, even if Cavani had his moments last season and Van de Beek could yet be handed a lifeline by Erik ten Hag. Under the radar in 2020, however, United's academy were working hard on recruitment, taking advantage of the opportunity to sign youngsters from overseas before new Brexit regulations came in.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were all raided for out-of-contract talent and, almost two years on, two of those teenagers could be line to make their debuts, if not against Chelsea tonight then quite possibly against Brentford on Monday.


Alejandro Garnacho has been an unused substitute for the last three games. But with Jadon Sancho the latest forward to drop out of contention, the 17-year-old will almost certainly have featured for United by the time the Bank Holiday weekend ends.
